Delivery of genetic material through IV
Inex Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Vancouver, BC, recently announced that it’s proprietary drug delivery technology successfully carried therapeutic genes to disease sites in animal models, and the potential is there for similar results in humans through intravenous administration.
Such capability is necessary to fight dis- ease such as metastatic cancers, which spread throughout the body. While tumor masses can be treated through surgery, radiation, or other techniques, metastatic cancers pose a different problem.
According to the company, its Transmembrane Carrier Systems (TCS) technology is different from its competitors’ in that its genes aren’t broken down as rapidly or become trapped in various tissues.
TCS carries therapeutic agents inside a capsule composed of a proprietary combination of lipids and polymers, is made from pharmaceutical grade components, and can be efficiently loaded with DNA. t
