Ethical Nutrition Market continues steady growth
The U.S. ethical nutrition market reached $4.2 billion in revenues in 1995 and figures to reach $6.5 billion in 2002, in large part due to the shift in the health care environment from institutional to home care, according to a report by the medical market research firm, Frost & Sullivan.
In an attempt to keep costs down, hospitals and managed care organizations are sending patients home earlier, opening a lucrative market for enteral and parenteral nutritional products.
Upward trend: Many factors contribute
The most active segment of the industry, according to the report, is the adult enteral nutrition market, with the growing elderly population playing a major role in the segment’s growth.
Other factors affecting the market’s anticipated upward trend include the bundling of products and services, particularly into long-term and managed care contracts, in addition to the increase in popularity of home care.
