Conception more likely following IVF birth
Women in their mid-20s and early 30s who wish to have more children after a successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancy should wait two years before seeking additional IVF treatments.
That’s the consensus from researchers in Japan who studied women whose ages ranged from 24 to 40 years.
Researchers found that 18% (or 25 of 142 total participants) conceived within five years of an IVF pregnancy, with most occurring within two years of the pregnancy. The findings appear in the January 1999 issue of Fertility and Sterility, the official journal of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Birmingham, AL.
Women younger than 27 had spontaneous pregnancy rates of 37%, while women over 34 had less than a 10% spontaneous pregnancy rate.
