The Wedge Project:’ It doesn’t exist, HCFA says
When is a wedge not a wedge? When it has to do with Operation Restore Trust (ORT). It seems the now infamous Wedge Project really isn’t a project at all. In fact, it’s nothing more than a misnomer.
"We probably shouldn’t use those words because it’s confusing to people," says Linda Ruiz, the director of the program integrity group for the Health Care Financing Administration. "What it really refers to is that some of the funding out of the Fraud and Abuse Control Act was not specifically designated for any agency. People are calling that wedge money.’ We took some of that and applied it to ORT. The wedge just refers to the source of money."
Now if only ORT could be dispelled so easily.
