The Patient Information Treehouse Kiosk

One component of the CHLB intranet that will soon be on-line is the Patient Information Treehouse Kiosk. A multidisciplinary team has been responsible for the development of the content of this part of the intranet, according to Wendi Holden, Intranet Webmaster at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical (CHLB) in Memphis, TN. Departments are responsible for updating specific information on the site. There are three proposed locations of these kiosks within CHLB, she says, and they will be constructed to resemble trees to ensure easy identification. (See treehouse kiosk, p. 87).

Using touchscreens, parents and patients can locate information such as:

-Directions to areas of the hospital

- What to bring for admission

- The hospital’s visitation policy

- Where parent rooms are located

- A map of the Memphis area

- Where to find laundromats, restaurants, grocery stores, lodging

- Important phone numbers within the medical center

- A listing of "fun things to do" including a list of theme parks, museums, and movie theaters

- Patient education material
