Television news channel CNN’s financial arm, CNNfn, recently discussed on its Your Money show the growth of the senior population and the affect it has had on the home healthcare industry. A reporter for the show interviewed a former congressman from New York, Mario Biaggi, who suffered a broken hip last year and still has difficulty walking because of bullet wounds he suffered during his 23 years as a New York police officer. Biaggi receives home care, and he said the care keeps him comfortable and permits him to function on a daily basis. This year, Americans will spend $40 billion on home care, the reporter said. Cost cuts, combined with better portable medical technology, have led to the growth in home care. And experts believe the patients do better at home, CNNfn reported.
