First annual family fitness’ day scheduled

The Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), based in Libertyville, IL, will be coordinating the first annual Family Health & Fitness Day USA on Sunday, September 28. The nationwide event, a public/private partnership, will encourage local organizations to host noncompetitive family health and fitness activities, such as walking events, exercise sessions, health screenings, and health information workshops.

"Family Health & Fitness Day USA can complement today’s corporate work/family health programs by focusing attention on health promotion/wellness as a family issue," notes Patricia Henze, executive director of HIRC. "Families account for the majority of health care costs. This new event will show families the health benefits they can gain and how much fun they can have by participating together in health and fitness activities."
