Four-year study evaluates stroke recovery
Nine hospitals in the Kansas City, KS, area are collaborating to study factors that influence recovery from stroke.
The study could ultimately provide information that may help determine which patients would benefit from a great deal of care and which would not, says Louis Giron Jr., MD, neurologist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Kansas City.
The study will follow 500 to 600 patients at the sites where they receive rehabilitation hospitals, at home, rehab centers, and nursing homes. It will examine other factors that may affect recovery, such as depression and social support.
