Survey profile
A total of 222 readers participated in the annual pill survey, which monitors contraceptive trends and family planning issues among Contraceptive Technology Update readers. Results were tallied and analyzed by American Health Consultants in Atlanta, publisher of CTU and more than 80 other medical newsletters and books.
Almost 80% of responses came from nurse practitioners or registered nurses. Physicians represented about 12% of the responses, with 6% listing other professions. About 80% of respondents were listed as care providers, with nearly 12% involved in administration.
More than 65% work in public health facilities, while about 13% work in academic institutions. Some 6% are employed in private practice offices, with about an equal number working in hospitals. The remaining 10% work in other settings. Some 38% of respondents work in urban facilities, with about 37% in rural settings. About 22% of CTU readers said they worked in a suburban setting.
