Physician self-test judges standards in care
How much do you really know about outcomes, patient satisfaction, and other clinical and medical management issues? The American Society of Internal Medicine in Washington, DC, has developed a self-assessment program to help physicians find out.
Physicians take a test, receive their scores and comparisons with a national database, as well as detailed explanations for each of the answers. The program costs $450 ($400 for ASIM members) and provides up to 95 hours of continuing medical education credit through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City.
The program represents a larger trend toward evidence-based standards in patient care, notes Alan Nelson, MD, ASIM executive vice president. Increasingly, physician groups are seeking to diminish geographic variations in their approach to care, he says.
