National meeting offers pain strategies
The American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics in Boston and St. John’s Health System in St. Louis will co-sponsor a national meeting, Taking Responsibility for Effective Pain Management: Professional, Institutional, and Legal Strategies, Nov. 14-15, 1997, in Springfield-Branson, MO. Meeting topics will include:
• support resources for institutions committed to improving the treatment of pain;
• promoting pain relief in the institution;
• pain assessment;
• payment for pain relief;
• legal and regulatory issues;
• special session on pediatric pain;
• cancer pain;
• pain in nursing homes;
• national movement to improve pain relief;
• new standards for opioid use in the treat- ment of chronic pain.
