Organizations needed for EOL collaborative
The Boston-based Institute for Healthcare Improvement is forming a collaborative on improving end-of-life care and needs 40 participants to begin the process in July. Participants can include staff from hospitals, nursing homes, managed care organizations, and hospice programs.
The institute brings together health care providers to look at particular health care issues needing improvement. For a year, they work to develop practices that will significantly improve the quality of care for patients. Other initiatives include reducing adverse drug events and alleviating lower back pain.
The group discussed the results of a one-year collaborative to improve intensive care practices at a meeting in mid-May, says spokeswoman Lisa Green. These results focused on a number of issues in the ICU, including communication.
