A helping hand to Medi-Cal providers
To ease health care providers’ transition from fee-for-service to managed care, California has enacted legislation to financially promote expansion and/or improvement of providers’ equipment and facilities.
Assembly Bill 1230 requires that priority consideration be given to loan applications for facility updates that are submitted by Medi-Cal providers. Historically, Medi-Cal doctors have provided health care to mainly ethnic, low-income, and hard-to-reach populations.
Gov. Pete Wilson and Assembly Member Rod Wright of the L.A. Care Health Plan, a public health plan that serves Medi-Cal beneficiaries in Los Angeles County, are co-sponsors of the bill.
"AB 1230 is one component of a larger strategy to prepare traditional Medi-Cal providers for managed care," said Anthony D. Rodgers, chief executive officer of L.A. Care. "L.A. Care Health Plan is working side-by-side with doctors, pharmacists, and other health care providers to meet the challenges of managed health care." t
