Brain-dead woman gives birth, then dies

A 20-year old woman who suffered an aneurysm last August gave birth in Novem-ber after being sustained on life support. The patient’s family decided to keep her on life support until the baby was born at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

The patient died 20 minutes after giving birth via cesarean to a nine-week premature girl. The father of the child did not want to be involved in the decision, according to the family. Physicians decided to proceed with the procedure when the patient’s condition began to deteriorate. t
