Some Long-term Effects of Stress

* Decrease in body's immune system with an increase in colds, flu, and other communicable diseases

* High blood pressure

* Headaches

* Gastrointestinal upsets, diarrhea, ulcers, colitis

* Back injuries, strains, muscle tension, backaches

* Increased problems with skin conditions, allergies, asthma

* Arthritis

* Weight loss or gain

* Sleep problems

* Increased use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs

* Psychological difficulties, such as depression, withdrawal, apathy, anger, irritability, hyperexcitability

* Burnout and other work-related problems

* Relationship problems

* Sexual problems
