MIRACLE Studies’ Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria

The MIRACLE trial

Patient inclusion criteria

ª NYHA Class III or IV

ª QRS duration >/= 130 ms*

ª Ejection fraction <35%

ª Left ventricular end-diastolic dimension >/= 55 mm

ª Stable medical regimen** for at least one month

ª If taking beta-blockers, stable regimen for at least three months

Patient exclusion criteria

ª Unstable angina or acute MI

ª Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) or percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) within the past three months

ª Prior pacing systems or pacing indications

ª Existing implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)

ª Chronic atrial arrhythmias

ª Life expectancy < 6 months for reasons unrelated to heart failure

The MIRACLE ICD trial

Patient inclusion criteria

ª NYHA CLASS II, III, or IV

ª QRS duration > 130 ms

ª Ejection fraction < 35%

ª Left ventricular end-diastolic dimension >/= 55 mm

ª Stable medical regimen

ª If taking beta-blockers, stable for 3 months

ª Indicated for an ICD

Patient exclusion criteria

ª Unstable angina

ª CABG

ª Chronic atrial arrhythmias

** Including at least ACE inhibitors or an ACE inhibitor substitute, unless contraindicated or not tolerated by the patient.
