October 1, 1997

DeRoyal Industries has introduced two wound care packs containing supplies needed to treat a wound at home for seven days.

The Multidex packs are designed for treating diabetic ulcers, infected and non-infected wounds, lesions, burns, and cuts ranging in size from less than 1.5 inches in diameter to 2.5 inches in diameter.

"In today’s managed health care environment, consumers more than ever before are relegated to tending their own personal health care," says Janet P. DeBusk, vice president of DeRoyal Wound Care in Knoxville, TN, a division of DeRoyal Industries. "The wound care packs represent a logical way to package our products so that they can be used in a convenient, systematic manner in the home."

Seven daily doses

Multidex wound care packs include seven daily dose packs each containing a bottle of sterile saline, a sterile gauze sponge, 1¼7 fl. oz. tube of Multidex gel, and a Covaderm Plus dressing measuring 1.5 • 1.5 inches or 2.5 • 2.5 inches. Multidex gel can be used on all wounds, including all dermal ulcers (stages II, III, and IV), lesions, diabetic ulcers, abdominal wounds, superficial wounds, donor sites, minor and second-degree burns, as well as cuts, scrapes, and abrasions.

Multidex gel is a Maltodextrin NF wound dressing with 1% ascorbic acid. The company claims that the compound assists in attracting topical nutrients to the wound site and mixes with wound exude to form a natural protective coating. The gel creates and maintains a moist environment beneficial for tissue growth and provides an environment for the body to heal itself, DeBusk explains.

She adds that in clinical studies, Multidex gel helped to soften necrotic tissue that aids in the debridement process, quickly penetrates all irregularities of a wound to fill tunneling and undermining, is non-toxic, is not absorbed systemically, and is effective on infected and non-infected wounds.
