CDC lands large windfall of $8 million for TB programs
The Centers for Disease Control and Preven tion’s Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE) has netted extra funding: about $8 million more than the level that had been anticipated and about 7% more than last fiscal year’s appropriation. But because Congress took so long to sign off on budget appropriations, the gain won’t affect cooperative agreement awards, says Patty Simone, MD, chief of the DTBE’s field services branch. "We based our current awards on getting level funding, and the awards will go out that way."
As for the windfall, at least part of it probably will be made available to state programs at some point, she predicts. "We don’t yet know what we’ll do with the money. Probably we’ll give at least some of it to the states, but that’ll be later."
