Get ready! Prospective payment is coming to hospitals in ’99, surgery centers in ’98
You’ve been hearing about it for years, and now it has the president’s signature on it: A prospective payment system (PPS) will be developed and implemented by the Health Care Financing Administration for hospital outpatient surgery by calendar year 1999. The same system is expected to be implemented for surgery centers by mid-1998 and doesn’t need Congressional approval.
