Who gets accredited?
Three-year accreditation is the top award given by CARF...The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission. One-year accreditation is awarded to facilities that have major deficiencies that do not affect the health, safety, and protection of the people served.
In 1995-1996, 68% of medical rehabilitation programs applying for accreditation for the first time received a three-year accreditation, 26% received a one-year accreditation, and 6% were not accredited.
Of programs undergoing subsequent surveys, 93% received three-year accreditation, 6% one-year accreditation, and 1% nonaccreditation.
