Free continuing education credits from ISMP
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) has announced that its "Action Agenda for Medication Error Prevention," a summary of the highest concerns in medication error prevention, has been approved for one hour of continuing education (CE) credit each quarter by the Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
There is no charge for the ongoing CE program. Learning objectives and instructions for how to apply for the CE credit are available on the Web at www. ismp.org. Each of the four annual CE programs (one for each quarterly agenda) will remain active for a year.
The Action Agenda is designed to guide pharmacists, pharmacy and therapeutics committees, risk managers, and others in reducing medication mishaps. Problem areas covered typically include look-alike drug names and packaging, ambiguity or errors in drug references, storage and dosing problems, and more. Items for the Action Agenda are drawn from ISMP Medication Safety Alert!, the organization’s biweekly newsletter that contains information about medication and device errors and preventable adverse drug reactions.
