AHIMA to announce Triumph Award winners
The American Health Information Manage-ment Association (AHIMA) in Chicago continues its celebration of outstanding accomplishments in the health information management (HIM) with the 1999 "Triumph Awards." The awards, which also receive funding support from Lanier Worldwide in Atlanta, recognize personal and professional contributions that will become "benchmarks for the profession."
This year’s program includes the following award categories and corresponding awards:
4 Honoring leadership in the field
• Distinguished Member Award — AHIMA’s highest honor recognizes outstanding professionals with a history of exceptional contributions to the HIM profession.
• Champion Award — for advancing AHIMA’s leadership position in the HIM field.
• Volunteer Award — for distinctive volunteer service on behalf of AHIMA in national, state, or local AHIMA activities.
• Discovery Award — for the emerging leader whose contributions behind the scenes led to the critical success of AHIMA special projects or initiatives.
4 Rewarding contributions that build the knowledge base
• Legacy Award — for notable contribution to the HIM knowledge base through perceptive, recent publication.
• Visionary Award — for the visionary professional whose groundbreaking work will lead the HIM profession into the next century.
4 Recognizing excellence in preparing future HIM professionals
• Educator Award — for excellent instruction in a degree-granting program and preparing HIM professionals for promising careers.
• Motivator Award — for exceptional commitment and expertise in clinical supervision.
• Mentor Award — for those whose support and encouragement have touched the lives of other HIM professionals.
4 Applauding innovators who advance practice
• Achievement Award — for the creative and innovative professional whose developments help to advance current practice.
• CPR Breakthrough Award — for the individual who "pushed the envelope" and has advanced state of the art work in managing computer-based patient records.
4 Encouraging fresh talent and new leadership
• Rising Star Award — for the certified professional who demonstrates potential for significant leadership in his or her career.
• New Frontier Award — for the gifted student whose academic excellence and exceptional work represents the future of the HIM profession.
Recipients of each award will be selected and notified no later than Aug. 6, 1999. The awards will be presented Oct. 5 at the AHIMA national convention and exhibit in Anaheim, CA.
