Collaborative to identify prescribing best practices
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Boston is accepting applications for a collaborative that will include 40 health care organizations and business coalitions that will work together for one year to identify and implement the best practices for prescribing medications. (See related story, p. 97.)Physicians, pharmacists, and quality professionals from hospitals, managed care organizations, and group practices are invited to apply for participation on the project that began in July.
In addition to best practices in prescribing, the collaborative will identify educational programs proven effective in setting the stage for change in prescribing behaviors.
Participating organizations will pay a fee of $12,000 to cover costs. The fee includes full participation of a three-member team in three two-day learning sessions scheduled over the course of the year, followed by action periods during which members apply what they have learned under the guidance of faculty and experts.
Members also receive ongoing consultation, communication and support from experts and peers during the course of the project. The collaborative ends with a National Congress open to all interested parties at which collaborative members have an opportunity to serve as faculty and share their results. To apply, contact the IHI at (617) 754-4800.
