Goals of prevention services for HIV-positive people

Here are the main goals of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's program offering prevention services for HIV-positive patients:

· offering client-centered counseling with continuous support for all HIV-infected people;

· providing multi-session counseling for those most likely to transmit the virus;

· developing strategies for working with those individuals who have trouble modifying risky behaviors;

· considering all patients at risk of transmitting HIV as candidates for prevention case management services;

· providing sex and needle-sharing partner counseling and referral services for all HIV-infected people;

· ensuring priority for drug treatment services for HIV-infected injected drug users.
