The new JCAHO at a glance
Essentially, the Joint Commission has reorganized itself into three functional units: Evaluation and Accreditation; Consultation and Education; and Research. Under the reorganization, Russell P. Massaro, MD, will continue on as executive vice president for accreditation operations. As of Jan. 1, 2000, his division will be responsible for the Office of Quality Monitoring, as well as standards interpretation and "all performance data monitoring responsibilities," according to a JCAHO press release.
Karen H. Timmons has been appointed chief executive officer of Joint Commission Resources (JCR), which currently is responsible for domestic and international consultation services. As of Jan. 1, JCR also will include all JCAHO education, publication, and continuous survey readiness activities.
Paul M. Schyve, MD, currently the Joint Commission’s senior vice president, will head up the newly created Research Division as of Jan. 1.
