Survey ranks HMO, POS plans
New York, City-based CareData Reports Inc., a health care consumer research company, released results of its 1998 survey evaluating member satisfaction with 145 managed health care plans in 27 major markets. This represents responses from nearly 50,000 members.
Among the findings:
• Although overall plan satisfaction remained high (57%), it was 3% lower than in 1996.
• Preventive care was most often encouraged for Pap smears, mammograms, and childhood vaccines, but was least often encouraged for glaucoma testing, flu vaccines, counseling on nutrition, skin protection, and bone density testing.
•The majority of members perceived treatment to be excellent for conditions such as pregnancy/delivery, cancer care and glaucoma, but less than 40% rated care as excellent for depression, quitting smoking, migraine, sleep problems, arthritis, and weight loss.
