Sample Discharge Instructions for the Patient with Abdominal Pain
There are many causes of abdominal pain. Most pain is not serious and goes away, but some pain gets worse, changes, or will not go away. Please return to the ED or see your doctor right away if you or your child have any of the following symptoms:
· Pain that gets worse or moves to just one spot
· Pain that gets worse if you cough or sneeze
· Pain that does not get better in 24 hours
· Unable to keep down liquids-especially if you are making less urine
· Fainting
· Blood in the vomit or stool
· High fever or shaking chills
· Swelling of the abdomen
· Any new or worsening problem
