Liposuction most popular cosmetic surgery in 2003
While the greatest amount of growth in cosmetic procedures was seen in noninvasive techniques such as Botox and microdermabrasion, results of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery’s (AACS) 2003 Procedural Survey show that invasive procedures such as liposuction and breast augmentation continue to grow as well.
The top three increases in invasive procedures were breast augmentation procedures — which increased 8.5% between 2002 and 2003 — while liposuction and sclerotherapy followed with increases of 6.3% and 2.3%. Liposuction was the most frequently requested procedure, with more than 74,000 patients undergoing the procedure in 2003. In addition, survey data show that although women continue to be the top consumer for cosmetic procedures, the number of men undergoing procedures grew 3.85% between 2002 and 2003. The procedures men most commonly seek are hair transplantation and restoration, liposuction, and blepharoplasty.
