AAAHC and JCAHO granted deemed status
HCFA granted the Joint Commission and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care of Skokie, IL, deemed status on Dec. 19, 1996. This is the first time Medicare has recognized accreditation organizations as eligible to certify ambulatory surgical centers.
What it means to you is less duplication of effort and an end to delay for facilities seeking Medicare certification. The Joint Commission has accredited about 200 freestanding surgery centers, and the AAAHC has accredited about 300 centers.
