AMCP endorses SCRIPT for electronic prescriptions
The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) in Alexandria, VA, has endorsed the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs’ voluntary national standards for the electronic transmission of prescription information, known as SCRIPT. SCRIPT is a data transmission standard designed to facilitate the communication of prescription information between prescribers and providers.
The current SCRIPT document addresses the electronic transmission of new prescriptions and refill requests. Future versions may address other data communication options, such as patient status requests, compliance lab values, diagnosis, disease management protocols, patient drug therapy profiles, DUR alerts, prescription transfers, and formulary recommendations.
The AMCP has more than 3,400 members nationally who are part of more than 600 managed care organizations.
