May anxiety screening day
Employees who are concerned that anxiety may be hampering their mental health and/or productivity can participate in free anxiety screenings scheduled to be held May 7 across the country. The screenings, at more than 2,000 sites, are part of "National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day," a program of the National Mental Illness Screening Project, based in Staten Island, NY.
"The screening includes a brief overview, a video presentation, and a short meeting with a mental health professional," explains Florence Christiana, a representative of the screening project. "If it is deemed appropriate, they are referred for further treatment."
In the past three years, 46% of those individuals who were screened and referred for additional help have, in fact, received subsequent treatment, says Christiana.
