Research service enhances self-care

The Proactive Patient, a non-profit research service to enhance patient self-care education efforts, has begun operations in Valley Ford, CA. The service accesses large medical databases and provides patients with information about specific diseases and conditions, treatment options, and medications. The cost of running a typical search is $95, while cancer searches are $125.

"Patients can research something as simple as over-the-counter allergy medicines or as sophisticated as chronic lymphatic cancer," says Sherry Weinberg, executive director of The Proactive Patient. "It’s really important to do your own research because often doctors do ot really have enough time to provide you with all the information and resources you eed to know about as a patient."
