AHCPR targets attention deficit, valve disease
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and valvular heart disease are the focus of two new "evidence reports," a comprehensive review and analysis of scientific research, the federal Agency for Health Care Policy and Research in Rockville, MD, announced.
AHCPR is working with the American Academy of Pediatrics to develop a report on the initial evaluation and diagnosis of ADHD in the primary care setting. The agency is working with the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association to research such topics as the initial evaluation of cardiac murmurs and the evaluation of tests used in the work-up and evaluation of newly diagnosed heart murmurs.
The professional societies plan to use the reports to develop clinical practice guidelines. These are among the first reports of the agency’s new evidence-based practice program, which began in January. AHCPR no longer publishes its own clinical practice guidelines.
