Study finds physicians concerned about Internet
Although physicians realize the potential the Internet offers for health information and patient communications, they are concerned about consumer misinformation and security, a focus group conducted by consultants FIND/SVP in New York City and Needham, Mass-based MSB Associates finds.
"On the one hand, they (physicians) know interactive healthcare information can speed their communications with colleagues and their access to recent medical discoveries. Conversely, they’re very uncomfortable with consumers who walk into their offices with self-diagnoses pulled off the Internet," says Thomas E. Miller, vice president of the Emerging Technologies research Group and FIND/SVP.
On the other hand, consumers surveyed by FIND/SVP found that the health-related Internet application most desired by consumers was the ability to retrieve personal medical information from their own physician’s office.
