Managed care scores well with Medicaid patients
Medicaid patients enrolled in managed care plans are happier and have better access to care than those in the traditional Medicaid program, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.1
Medicaid managed care patients were more likely to see the same doctor for their care and to call the health plan when they needed after-hours help rather than visiting the emergency department. They also reported shorter waiting times.
The 1,448 patients in the Medicaid survey voluntarily enrolled in managed care plans in new York City and were healthier than those in the traditional program.
