The academy has a quarterly newsletter called The Update about hospice nurses and palliative medicine; the academy also sells study guides for certification exams in hospice and palliative medicine, including: Assessment and Treatment of Pain in the Terminally Ill; Management of Selected Non-pain Symptoms in the Terminally Ill; Ethical and Legal Decision Making When Caring For the Terminally Ill; Alleviating Spiritual and Psychological Pain. All four cost $70, or they can be purchased separately at $20 each. The academy also sells a 60-page guide to pain management and other topics, called The Primer of Palliative Care. It costs $4.95. The academy is holding a conference Dec. 4-7 in Washington, DC, on HIV/AIDS and Palliative Medicine. The cost is $300 for members; non-members’ cost is $350; for nurses it costs $175.
