Managed care troubles patients
The move toward managed care concerns 81% of Americans, according to the results of a poll conducted by Penn & Schoen Associates for the American Psychological Association.
Listed below is a breakdown of some of the respondents concerns, according to a press release issued by the American Psychological Association:
• 37% said quality of care was the main concern.
• 21% were concerned with cost.
• 25% were concerned with access to health care.
• 55% said they believed some government oversight was necessary to ensure high-quality health care at reasonable prices.
• 81% said that they would be "deeply concerned" if their health plans prohibited health care providers from telling patients about all of their treatment options because some of the options may be too costly.
• 49% said that they had received information from their health plans about mental health benefits.
• 45% said that they had not received information about mental health benefits.
