Keep Sager splint cushion clean
Cover the padded bar of a Sager Splint with an inside-out shoe cover. This helps you keep the foam cushion clean and allows you to provide a "clean" surface for each patient. "The bar that goes between the patient's legs and presses against the perineum has foam padding, which is usually against bare skin," says Jean Proehl, RN, MN, CEN, CCRN, emergency clinical nurse specialist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. An inside out shoe-cover is an easily available and replaceable cover for the foam padding.
