Grant applicants sought for women's research
Applications are being accepted for the 1999 Jacobs Institute/Ortho-McNeil Pharma ceu tical Scholar in Women's Health grant. Research must cover the changing health care environment, the unmet need for primary and preventive health care, the historic lack of research on women's health, and the importance of social, cultural, legal, economic, and behavioral factors influencing the financing and delivery of health care to women.
Application deadline for the $30,000 award is Oct. 16, 1998. The recipient will be announced January 1999, and the award will run from July 1, 1999, to June 30, 2000. One or more manuscripts from the research should be submitted to Jacobs' peer-reviewed journal, Women's Health Issues.
Established in 1994, the annual award is intended to identify ways to improve the delivery of health care services to women. Past awards have gone to research of social, cultural, and demographic reasons for low rates of contraceptive use among Latina women, the racial differences in estrogen use among middle-age and older women, and the risk of preterm birth associated with specific reproductive tract infections among African-American women.
The Jacobs Institute, based in Washington, DC, is a nonprofit organization focused on women's health care issues.
