PBGH, NCQA among first winners of Ellwood Awards
The Foundation for Accountability (FACCT) in Portland, OR, awarded its first Ellwood Awards to recognize leadership in trying to build an accountable health care system."
Named after Paul Ellwood, MD, a founder of FACCT and a pioneer in the outcomes movement, the awards will be given annually to a corporate health care purchaser, government purchaser, consumer and patient organization, health industry organization, and individual.
This year's winners were:
· Alain C. Enthoven, PhD, a Stanford University professor and former White House adviser who helped develop the concepts of managed care and managed competition. He is currently chairman of California's Managed Health Care Improvement Task Force.
· Families USA Foundation, a consumer group that has pushed for managed care protections.
· Pacific Business Group on Health, a corporate purchaser coalition that has been a leader in collecting and disseminating outcomes information.
· U.S. Health Care Financing Administration, which has supported quality initiatives and requires performance measurement for Medicare Risk health plans.
· National Committee for Quality Assurance, which accredits health plans and created the HEDIS measurement system.
