How good are your wound care outcomes?
Survey participation will let you gauge
Ever wonder if your wound care outcomes are appropriate, or how they compare to others treating the same types of wounds? Are your treatment protocols cost-effective? The nonprofit Wound Care Institute in North Miami Beach, FL, is conducting a study that will help participants answer those questions.
All participation will remain confidential, and participants will have priority access to the information gathered. Those with the best outcomes will have the opportunity to submit their treatment protocols.
To participate in the study, you must have at least 20 different patients who have had the same wound type prior to submitting information. For example, if you are submitting information about Stage III pressure ulcers of the greater trochanter, you must complete the following 10 fields on at least 20 different ulcers that fit that description (these cases must have been initiated after Jan. 1, 1996):
1. Ulcer type (pressure ulcer, venous stasis ulcer, neuropathic plantar foot ulcer [diabetic foot ulcer], arterial ulcer, traumatic wound)
2. Ulcer stage or grade
3. Ulcer location
4. Number of weeks ulcer was present prior to your treatment
5. Beginning treatment date
6. Closure date
7. Total treatment days
8. Total number of dressing changes
9. Total number of encounters with a trained health care provider
10. Patient initials and last four digits of his or her social security number
