As of Jan. 1, 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has discontinued use of HCPCS code J7302 for 52 mg levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine devices (IUDs).
The impacted devices are:
- Liletta (Medicines360, San Francisco and Actavis, Dublin, Ireland);
- Mirena (Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Wayne, NJ).
Procedure and device coding changes for dates of service on or after Jan. 1, 2016, are 58300 (IUD Insertion) and J7297 (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine contraceptive system, 52 mg, three-year duration [Liletta]) OR J7298 (Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine contraceptive system, 52 mg, five-year duration [Mirena]).
