HHS publishes interim final rule extension
The Department of Health and Human Services published Sept. 14 an extension to the interim final rule establishing procedures for imposition of civil money penalties on entities that violate HIPAA administrative simplification standards.
The interim final rule would have expired Sept. 16 but was extended to March 16, 2006, “to avoid the disruption of ongoing enforcement actions while HHS completes with rule making to develop a more comprehensive enforcement rule," the department said.
