AT&T inks $500 million VHA pact for telecommunications services

AT&T (Basking Ridge, New Jersey) said it has been awarded a five-year contract by VHA Inc. (Irving, Texas), valued at more than $500 million, to provide a full range of services to VHA member organizations. Under the agreement, AT&T will offer telecommunications services at reduced costs to VHA’s 1,800 healthcare organizations and affiliated physicians.
AT&T will offer a package of rates for long distance and local telephone services, data network services, Internet access, teleconferencing and operator services. VHA said the agreement is part of an initiative to expand its portfolio of products linking physicians and healthcare organizations through advanced telecommunications and Internet services. VHA members are expected to save more than $55 million off standard costs during the life of the contract.
Curt Nonomaque, VHA executive vice president and CFO, said the new contract "offers significant cost savings on existing and new service offerings, and characterized the agreement as "an example of how VHA can deliver value to its members."
VHA is a nationwide network of more than 1,800 locally owned healthcare organizations and their physicians. The network includes nearly one-quarter of the community hospitals in the U.S. With about 20 locations throughout the country, VHA offers products and services in six categories: clinical effectiveness, information technology, learning networks and education, market share development, performance improvement and supply chain management.
