Medirisk acquires credentials verification firm and solution
Medirisk (Atlanta), a provider of decision-support software and analytical services to the healthcare industry, announced two acquisitions this week.
The company said it has acquired Healthcare Credentials Management Services (HCMS), a subsidiary of MMI Companies Inc. HCMS is a provider of online verifications and outsource credentialing services. The $4 million cash deal adds two Internet-based products Healthcare Credentials Online (HCOL) and AppSTAT to Medirisk’s product line.
Medirisk said HCOL is the only Internet-based physician credentials verification information product currently on the market, and added that AppSTAT allows physicians to electronically maintain a single set of credentials information that can be provided to any managed care organization to streamline the application process. Besides the two web products, Medirisk also gains HCMS’s outsourced credentialing service customer base.
Mark Kaiser, Medirisk chairman and CEO, said the HCOL acquisition "is a major step forward in two very important areas for us . . . the addition of HCOL and AppSTAT gives us a complete suite of products to meet the needs of any credentialing customer." He added that through the Internet, Medirisk now has "a vehicle for making our comprehensive physician information available to more users."
Medirisk also has acquired Patient Care Analyst (PCA), an Internet solution for the evaluation of hospital discharge data, from the Center for Performance Sciences, a subsidiary of the Maryland Hospital Association. The purchase was made for $289,000 in cash. PCA will be integrated into Medirisk’s Healthdemographics family of tools that analyze patient origin, market share and competitor profiling.
