News Briefs: CDC updates web site on bioterrorism
During the anthrax scare in October 2001, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta had 9.1 million hits on its web site. There was such demand for credible information from the public and health care sectors, the CDC recently updated its web site on bioterrorism (www.bt.cdc.gov). The redesigned site is the official federal site for medical professionals to reference when providing information to the public. It has up-to-date and accurate information on health threats arising from exposure to biological, chemical, or radiological weapons of mass destruction.
The CDC also operates a hotline that provides information for public health preparedness and emergency response. The hotline is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tele- phone: (888) 246-2675 (English) and (888) 246- 2857 (Spanish).
