Need to know more about PPS? Read this first
To obtain more information about the Medicare prospective payment system (PPS) for home health, you may request a copy of the Federal Register dated Oct. 27, 1999, by:
• Sending an $8 (per copy) check or money order to New Orders, Superintendent of Documents, P.O. Box 371954, Pittsburgh, PA 15250-7954.
• Calling or faxing an order using a Visa or Master Card number and expiration date. To call in an order, dial (202) 512-1800; to fax an order, call (202) 512-2250.
• Viewing the Federal Register, for free, at a library.
• Or contacting the Government Printing Office Web site at www.access.gpo.gov/index. html and linking to the Federal Register. Once there, search for the Oct. 27, 1999, proposed rule for PPS and home health agencies by typing these words into the search engine: prospective payment system AND home health. Then click on the link to the Federal Register report.
To speak with a Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) representative about comments on the proposed rule, call Bob Wardwell, project manager, at (410) 786-0131.
Also, the National Association for Home Care (NAHC) in Washington, DC, has information about the proposed PPS rule on its Web site at www.nahc.org. Some of the information is available only to NAHC members.
Finally, home care administrators and others who would like to submit a written comment on the proposed rule may do so by 5 p.m. on Dec. 27, 1999. Here’s how:
• Mail: Written comments should be sent in the form of one original and three copies to Health Care Financing Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, Attention: HCFA-1059-P, P.O. Box 8010, Baltimore, MD 21244-8010.
• Special delivery: One original and three copies of the comments may be delivered to one of the following addresses:
— HCFA, Room 443-G Hubert H. Humphrey Building, 200 Independence Ave. S.W., Washington, DC 20201;
— HCFA, Room C5-14-03, 7500 Security Blvd., Baltimore, MD 21244-1850.
• Fax: HCFA will not accept any comments by fax.
