New exposure follow-up form inserted in this issue
A newly developed post-exposure follow-up form has been inserted in this issue of Hospital Infection Control as a reader service. Designed to incorporate the latest post-exposure recommendations on HIV and hepatitis, the form was developed and recently published by the International Health Care Worker Safety Center at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.1
The authors remind that follow-up protocols may vary in different hospitals. The form is intended to accommodate differences in follow-up protocols, not to endorse or recommend specific practices. The authors grant permission to health care institutions to photocopy the form for purposes of tracking post-exposure follow-up of occupational injuries such as needlesticks and splashes. However, the form may be not be distributed as part of other surveillance systems without written permission of the authors.
The new book also includes other exposure and injury reporting forms, illustrations, and descriptions of needle safety devices, and discussion of rates, causes, and prevention of blood exposures in health care settings.
